The Cash for Clunkers program has run out of money. The National Automobile Dealers Association, "would like more money for the program which has been a boon for car sales" (NPR).

How about a clunkers for bikes program? Turn in you clunker, get $1,000 for a really great commuter streetbike, and $2,000 in transit vouchers.
In Holland if you live within 15 miles of work and decide to not commute by car, you'll get an 800 euro voucher for a new bike plus 200 euros in coupons for bike supplies. Well placed priorities!
